мꙑи҅хъ бо о҅тъ бога ѥ҅свѣ· твоѥи бо доуши погꙑбѣль҆ прѣо҅долѣ дожи и҆ до съмрь҆ти· не добрѣ мѫдровати на цѣломѫдрованиѥ къ богоу· много бо бѣсованиѥ҅ ѥ҅же отъ тебе томьѥниѥ въвръже тꙙ въ хоулѫ· ... (τῶν γὰρ σωζο)μένων ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐσμεν· σοῦ δὲ τῆς ψυχῆς ἀπώλεια ἐκυρίευσεν ἕως θανάτου, μὴ εὐφρονῆσαι εἰς τὸ σωφρονῆσαι· ἡ γὰρ πολλή σου τῆς τυραννίδος μανία ἔτρεψέν σε εἰς βλασφημίαν· Then the gaolers coming up and taking hold of Paulus and Juliana led them to Aurelian's judgmentseat and the emperor looking intently at them and smiling (or laughing) said: "I regard myself as fortunate today because of your good fortune. For perhaps I may expect to gain some great thing from you, and by the gods, if you tell me the truth, you will receive many great presents from me, and you will be lords of my kingdom. For I have heard from those who have kept a watch on you, that the lord Apollo was beside you." Paulus said in answer "We do not know Apollo; for we are saved by God. But destruction will be master of your soul until death, so that you will not be so far wise as to come to your senses; for this great madness of your [kingly power] has turned (or inclined) you to blasphemy.
а҅гⸯг҄ела бо ѥ҅гоже посъла г꙯ь ї꙯с х꙯с и҅ б꙯ъ· ꙁагради о҄уста плѣжѫштиїхъ· ѥ҅гоже тꙑ свои҅мъ прѣꙁорь҆ствомъ прѣложи въ аполона· и҅ раꙁгнѣвавъ сꙙ а҅урилиꙗнъ повелѣ съвалъмꙑ оловѣнꙑ биті ꙗ по челюстьма· глагол҄ѧ ѥ҅моу не ѫ҅родьно и҅ прѣꙁорь҆но о҅тъвѣштаваи҆· вѣдꙑ ꙗ҅ко прѣдъ цѣсаремь стои҅ши τὸν γὰρ ἄγγελον, ὃν ἀπέστειλεν ὁ κύριος Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, ἐμφράξαι τὰ στόματα τῶν ἑρπετῶν, σὺ τῇ οἰκείᾳ ὑπερηφανίᾳ μετέβαλες εἰς Ἀπόλλονα”. Καὶ χολέσας Αὐριλλιανὸς ἐκέλευσεν βώλοις μολίβδου τύπτεσθαι αὐτοῦ τὰς σιαγόνας λέγων αὐτῷ· „Μὴ ἀφρόνως και ὑπερηφάνως φθέγγου, εἰδὼς ὅτι βασιλεῖ παρέστηκας”. For the angel whom the Lord Jesus Christ sent to stop up the mouths of the beasts, you in the arrogance of your nature have changed into Apollo." And Aurelian being angry ordered that they should be struck on the jaw with lumps of lead, saying to them " [You speak] unwisely and arrogantly, seeing that you stand before the Emperor."
· и о҅тъведъ паѵла свѣн҄е сѫдиїшта пріꙁъвавъ и҅о҄улиꙗ҅ниѭ҄ рече къ н҄еи· владꙑчице моѥ҅ѧ дш꙯ꙙ и҅о҄улиꙗниѥ· о҄умол҄ена бꙑвⸯши о҅тъ мене· не прѣл҄ьштаи сꙙ боуѥстиѭ҄ павь҆ла брата своѥ҅го· Καὶ μεταστήσας τὸν Παῦλον ἀπὸ τοῦ βήματος προσκαλεσάμενος τὴν Ἰουλιανὴν εἶπεν αὐτῇ· „Δέσποινα τῆς ἐμῆς ψυχῆς Ἰουλιανή, παρακληθεῖσα παρ' ἐμοῦ, μὴ συναπάγου τῇ μωρίᾳ Παύλου τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου· And removing Paulus from the tribune he summoned Juliana and said to her "Juliana, lady of my heart, you have been called here by me, so that you may not be led away by the [same fate] as your brother Paulus:
виждѫ бо тꙙ дѣвицѫ мѫдрѫ сѫштѫ· и҅ мⸯногѫ прѣмѫдрость имѫштѫ· да о҄утѣшивъши сꙙ послоушаи҆ мене· и бѫдеши владꙑчица моѥ҄и дш꙯и· и обраꙁꙑ ꙁлатꙑ поставьѭ҄ ти по вь҆сꙙ градꙑ вь҆сеѧ вь҆сел҄енꙑѧ҆· ὁρῶ γάρ σε παῖδα φρονιμωτάτην οὖσαν, πολλῆς σοφίας μετέχουσαν· διὸ παρακληθεῖσα πείσθητί μοι καὶ στήλας χρυσᾶς στήσω σου κατὰ πᾶσαν πόλιν τῆς οἰκουμένης”. for I see that you are a very prudent maiden, and of great wisdom. And so, now that I have called you here, be persuaded by me, and I will set up golden monuments to you in every city of the Empire."
о҅тъвѣштавъши же и҅о҄улиꙗни рече· не о҅тъвръгѫ сꙙ аурилиꙗ҅не томителю и҅ непрѣподобьне· не прѣль҆стиши рабꙑ бога вꙑшьнꙗаго· не примꙑшлꙗи҅ ми съмрьти вѣчь҆нꙑѧ лишити мꙙ хотꙙ славꙑ хс꙯овꙑ· и цѣсарьства небесънааго· ѥ҅гоже тꙑ штоуждъ ѥ҅си· Ἰουλιανὴ εἶπεν· „Οὐκ ἀπατᾷς με, Αὐριλλιανὲ τύραννε καὶ ἀνόσιε, οὐκ ἀπατᾷς τὴν δούλην τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου· μή μοι ἐπινόει θάνατον αἰώνιον ἀποστερεῖν με βουλόμενος τῆς δόξης τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν, ἧς σὺ ἀλλότριος... τυγχάνεις”. Juliana said "You will not trick me Aurelian, tyrant and profane man. You will not trick the servant of the most high God. Do not plan eternal death for me, trying to deprive me of the glory of God and of the kingdom of Heaven, which you as an alien to it and unworthy of it ‒ [are aiming at.] "
и҅ о҅тъведⸯ ѭ҄ повелѣ прити паулоу· и҅ рече ѥ҅моу павьле· и҅о҄улиꙗни сестра твоꙗ о҅бѣшта сꙙ пожрь҆ти богомъ· и҅ бꙑти ѥ҅и҆ женѣ ми и госпожди цѣсарь҆ствоу моѥ҅моу· въсхошти о҄убо и҅ тꙑ тожде мѫдроваті и҅ пристѫпивъ пожь҆ри богомъ· Καὶ μεταστήσας αὐτήν... ἐκέλευσεν τὸν Παῦλον ἀχθῆναι καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· „Παῦλε, ἰδοὺ ἡ ἀδελφή σου ὑπέσχετό μοι θύειν τοῖς θεοῖς καὶ γενέσθαι μοι εἰς γυναῖκα καὶ δέσποιναν τῆς ἐμῆς βασιλείας· θέλησον οὖν καὶ αὐτὸς πεισθῆναι καὶ θῦσαι τοῖς θεοῖς”. Then Aurelian, sending her away, ordered Paulus to be brought in and said to him "Paulus, know that your sister [has submitted to sacrifice] to the gods and (agreed) to become my wife and the lady of my kingdom. Therefore, agree yourself to be persuaded and to sacrifice to the gods."
паулъ рече· правь҆ сълъга· ничесоже штоужда сътвори нао҄учениꙗ о҅ть҆ца твоѥ҅го диꙗвола· не можеши бо никогоже о҅тътръгнѫти· раꙁвѣ лъжеѭ҄· насъ же не и҅маши въсхꙑтити· а҅ште и҅ цѣсарь҆ство намъ о҅бѣштаваѥ҅ши· ѥ҅гоже тꙑ лихъ ѥси· Παῦλος εἶπεν· „Ὀρθῶς ἐψεύσω... καὶ οὐδὲν ξένον πεποίηκας τῆς μαθήσεως τοῦ πατρός σου τοῦ διαβόλου,... οὔτε γὰρ δύνασθέ τινα συναρπάσαι, εἰ μὴ διὰ τοῦ ψεύδους· ἡμᾶς δὲ οὐ συναρπάσεις οὐδ' ἂν βασιλείαν ἡμῖν οὐρανῶν ἐπαγγέλλῃ, ἧς σὺ ξένος καὶ ἀλλότριος τυγχάνεις“. Paulus said "Certainly you are telling lies [like your chief, and] you have acted exactly in accordance with the teachings of your father the devil, accomplishing his works. For [he is not able] to carry away anyone, except by deceit. But you will not carry us away, or promise the kingdom (of Heaven) to us, [which you, being a stranger and alien to it, are aiming at] ."
а҅урилиꙗ҅нъ рече · доколѣ досаждаѥ҅ши не срамь҆ꙗ҅ѧ҅ сꙙ ѫ҅роде и҅ беꙁоумь҆лю· тако ми богꙑ а҅ꙁъ ва имамъ мѫчити· да никⸯтоже въꙁможетъ помошти вама· и҅ повелѣ принести о҅гн҄ь· и҅ полицꙙ желѣꙁнꙑ· и҅ въложити ѧ въ огн҄ь· Αὐριλλιανὸς εἶπεν· ,,Ἕως πότε ὑβρίζεις οὐκ αἰσχυνόμενος, λῆρε καὶ ἀφρονέστατε. Μὰ τοὺς θεούς, ἐγὼ ὑμᾶς βασανίσω, ὅπως μηδεὶς δυνηθῇ ἐξελέσθαι ὑμᾶς“...Καὶ ἐκέλευσεν... ἐνεχθῆναι πῦρ καὶ... ῥάβδους σιδηρᾶς καὶ ἐμβληθῆναι αὐτὰς εἰς τὸ πῦρ... Aurelian said "Are you not ashamed to be so arrogant, fool and madman ! But by the gods, I will torture you, so that no one will be able to disentangle you when you come from my hands." And (the tyrant) ordered fire to be brought in, and (fourteen) iron rods, and he ordered them to be put into the fire (and heated greatly),
и паулоу съвꙙꙁати рѫцѣ и҅ ноꙁѣ· и҅ колъ желѣꙁнъ въврѣти междоу рѫкама и҅ ногама· и҅ вънъꙁнѫти вь҆ ꙁемьѭ҄· и҅ дⸯвѣма митѣ палицама желѣꙁраждеженама биті и҆· и їо҄улиꙗ҅ниѭ҄ повелѣ поставити на блѫдилишти· рекⸯше на цѧтои҅мь҆ствѣ· καὶ... δεθῆναι τοῦ Παύλου τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τοὺς πόδας καὶ πάσσαλον σιδηροῦν βληθῆναι ἀναμέσον τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τῶν ποδῶν καὶ καταπαρῆναι εἰς τὴν γῆν καὶ οὕτως δύο παρὰ δύο ῥάβδοις πεπυρωμέναις τύπτεσθαι αὐτόν. Τὴν δὲ Ἰουλιανὴν ἐκέλευσεν στῆναι ἐν πορνείῳ. and (he ordered) Paulus hands and feet to be bound, and that iron pegs should be stuck through his hands and feet, and that he should be transfixed to the ground, and that after this should be beaten with the heated rods, two at a time. And he ordered Juliana to be put into a brothel.
и мⸯноꙁи о҅тъ стоѧ҅штааго тоу народа· бѣа҅хѫ текѫште· и҅ рь҆въноуѭ҄ште кꙋпьно· кⸯто прь҆воѥ҆ вьнидеть҆ къ н҄еи҆· бѣа҅хѫ бо ꙗ҅ко кон҄и ръжѫште о҅ добротѣ ѥѧ· ставⸯши же ѥ҅и на мѣстѣ на н҄емⸯже повелѣ а҅урилиꙗнъ· Καὶ πολλοὶ τῶν περιεστώτων ὄχλων... ἦσαν τρέχοντες ἐρίζοντες πρὸς ἀλλήλους, τίς πρῶτος εἰσέλθῃ πρὸς αὐτήν· ἦσαν γὰρ ὡς ἵπποι χρεμετίζοντες ἐπὶ τῷ κάλλει αὐτῆς. Σταθείσης δὲ αὐτῆς ἐν τῷ τόπῳ, ᾧ προσέταξεν Αὐριλλιανός, And many of the crowds of bystanders (being accursed and brutal) were jostling and quarreling with one another as to who should go to her first; for they were like horses whinnying at her beauty. But when she reached the place where Aurelian had sent her,
и҅ абиѥ а҆гⸯг҄елъ г꙯нь прѣдъста прѣдъ н҄еѭ҄· глаголꙙ · не о҄убои҆ сѧ и҅оулиꙗ҅ни· г꙯ь бо їс꙯ х꙯с ѥ҅моуже тꙑ слоужиши посъла мꙙ покрꙑти тꙙ· и покаꙁати свꙙтоѥ и҅мꙙ ѥго вь҆сѣмъ боѧ҅штиїмъ сꙙ ѥ҅го· и ꙗ҅ко отъ желаниꙗ къ и҅ю҄лиꙗ҆ниї течаа҅хѫ народи вь҆си· εὐθὺς ἄγγελος κυρίου... παρέστη αὐτῇ καὶ ἔφη πρὸς αὐτήν· „Μὴ φοβοῦ, Ἰουλιανή, ὁ γὰρ κύριος Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, ᾧ σὺ λατρεύεις, ἀπέσταλκέν με σκεπάσαι σε καὶ γνωρίσαι τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ τὸ ἅγιον πᾶσι τοῖς φοβουμένοις αὐτόν”. Ὡς δὲ προσήρχοντο οἱ ὄχλοι πρὸς αὐτὴν βουλόμενοι ἀπολαύειν τοῦ κάλλους αὐτῆς, immediately an angel of the Lord (coming down from Heaven) stood before her and said "Do not fear, Juliana, for the Lord Jesus Christ, whom you worship, has sent me to watch over you, and to make known his holy name to all who fear him." So when the crowds approached her, desiring (to enjoy her beauty),
а҅гⸯг҄елъ же о҅тътрꙙсъ прахъ ꙗ҅ко о҅тъ ногъ и҆хъ· о҅слѣпи ѧ и҅ не вѣдѣа҅хѫ камо и҅дѫтъ· и҅ не можаа҅хѫ приближити сꙙ ѥ҅и· и҅ вь҆пиꙗ҅хѫ вь҆си народи коупⸯно глагол҄҄ѫште· великъ богъ паул҄ь и҅ їо҄улиꙗнинъ· ἄγγελος ἐξετίναξεν τὸν κονιορτὸν ἀπὸ τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ ἐπ' αὐτοὺς καὶ ἐτύφλωσεν αὐτούς. Καὶ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν, ποῦ πορεύονται οὔτε ἠδύναντο πλησιάσαι αὐτῇ. Οἱ δὲ ὄχλοι... ἐβόων ὁμοθυμαδὸν λέγοντες· „Μέγας ὁ θεὸς Παύλου καὶ Ἰουλιανῆς, the angel stirred up a cloud of dust around his feet towards them and blinded them. And they did not see where they were going, nor were they able to get near her. Then the crowds (seeing the wonders which had happened) cried out with one accord, saying "Great is the God of Paulus and Juliana,
иже вь҆сь҆де съпасъ и покровител҄ь боѧштиїхъ сꙙ ѥ҅го· и҅ прѣбꙑвахѫ ѥ҅ште слѣпи· пришьдъше же покланꙗа҆хѫ сꙙ ѥ҅и҆· вь҆пиѭ҄ште и҅ глагол҄ѫште· и҅о҄улиꙗ҅ниѥ рабо б꙯а вꙑшь҆нꙗго· съгрѣшихомъ прѣдъ тобоѭ҄ ѫ҅родъскꙑ· нъ простивъши нꙑ ꙗ҅ко блага бога слоужител҄ьница· помоли сꙙ хс꙯оу да подастъ намъ видѣниꙗ҅· ὃς πανταχοῦ σωτὴρ καὶ σκεπαστὴς γίνεται τοῖς φοβουμένοις αὐτόν”. Οἱ μὲν οὖν τυφλωθέντες ἐγονυπέτουν αὐτῇ βοῶντες καὶ λέγοντες· „Ἰουλιανή, δούλη τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου, ἡμάρτομεν ἐνώπιόν σου παραφρονήσαντες, ἀλλὰ συγχώρησоν ἡμῖν ὡς ἀγαθοῦ θεоῦ ὑπηρέτις καὶ εὖξαι τῷ Χριστῷ σου, ἵνα χαρίσηται ἡμῖν τὸ βλέπειν”. who is everywhere the savior and protector of those who fear him." Therefore, those who had been blinded fell on their knees before her and cried out saying "Juliana, servant of the most high God, we sinned before you in madness, but forgive us, you who are the servant of the good God, and pray to your Christ, that he may give us grace to see."
Ст꙯аа҅ же и҅о҄улиꙗ҅ни милосрь҆довавъши вь҆ꙁꙙ водꙑ мало· и въꙁведⸯши о҅чи свои на небо· помоли сꙙ богоу глагол҄ѫшти· г꙯и їс꙯ х꙯се сп꙯се вьсѣхъ чл꙯къ· о҄услꙑши мене и҅ покажи· чоудеса своꙗ҅ ꙗ҅же твориши сн꙯омъ чловѣчьскомъ· Ἡ δὲ Ἰουλιανὴ σπλαγχνισθεῖσα... ἔλαβεν ὕδωρ βραχὺ καὶ ἀνατείνασα τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῆς εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἐπεκαλέσατο τὸν θεὸν λέγουσα· „Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, ὁ σωτὴρ τῶν ἁπάντων, ἐπάκουσόν μου καὶ δεῖξόν σου... τὰ θαυμάσια καὶ τὰ τεράστια, ἃ ποιεῖς δι' ἡμᾶς τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν ἀνθρώπων, Then Juliana feeling compassion (for them) took a little water, and lifting up her eyes to Heaven, called upon God, saying "Lord Jesus Christ, saviour of all men, hear me and show even now your wonders and marvels, which you do (for us) the sons of men,
и҅ даръствоуи҆ и҆мъ видѣниѥ҆· да прославꙙтъ с꙯тоѥ и҅ прѣхваль҆ноѥ и҅мꙙ твоѥ҆· и҅ тако покропи вь҆сь народⸯ· и҅ вьси ослѣпьѥниї проꙁь҆рѣшѧ· и текⸯше въ црькъвь х꙯вѫ каꙗхѫ сꙙ славꙙште б꙯а· и҅ їсповѣдаѭ҄ште грѣхꙑ своѧ бꙑшꙙ крь҆стиꙗни· καὶ χάρισαι αὐτοῖς τὸ βλέπειν, ὅπως δοξασθῇ σου τὸ ἅγιον καὶ ἔνδοξον ὄνομα”. Καὶ οὕτως διέρενε τὸ ὕδωρ ἐπάνω τῶν ὄχλων. Καὶ πάντες οἱ τυφλωθέντες ἀνέβλεψαν καὶ προσπεσόντες ηὐχαρίστουν τῷ θεῷ μετανοοῦντες καὶ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν καὶ ἐγένοντο Χριστιανοί. and give these men the grace to see, so that you may glorify your holy and wonderful name." And thus she sprinkled the water upon the crowds. And all those who had been blinded looked up, and falling (on their knees) they gave thanks to God, and being converted and confessing their sins, they became Christians.
Ст꙯ꙑи҅ же павьлъ на мⸯноꙁѣ мѫчимъ· и҅ биѥмъ палицами желѣꙁнами· бѣа҅хѫ бо раждъженꙑ свьтꙙште сꙙ а҅кꙑ мль҆нии· и҅ вь҆пиꙗ҅ше глагол҄ꙙ: а҅урилиꙗ҅не мѫчителю и непрѣподобьне· чⸯто ꙁъло сътворь҆ша мꙙ соуровѣ и непрѣподобь҆нѣ мѫчиши· мнѣ бо о҅бльгъчаваѥ҅тъ о҅тъ мѫкъ х꙯с· тебе же и҅матъ причꙙсть҆ника сътворити о҅гню вѣчьноуо҄умоу· о҄уготованоуо҄умоу тебѣ и҅ диꙗ҅волоу· Ὁ δὲ Παῦλος... βασανιζόμενος ἐπὶ πλεῖον ταῖς ῥάβδοις ταῖς σιδηραῖς, ἀνέκραγεν λέγων· „Αὐριλλιανὲ τύραννε καὶ ἀνόσιε, τί μηδὲν κακὸν ποιήσαντα οὕτως ὠμῶς καὶ ἀνοσίως βασανίζεις; Ἐμὲ μὲν ἐπικουφίζει τῶν βασάνων... Χριστός· σὲ δὲ ἔχει κληρονομῆσαι τὸ πῦρ τὸ αἰώνιον τὸ ἡτοιμασμένον σοὶ καὶ τῷ διαβόλῳ...”. But Paulus, having been tortured (by the executioners) a great deal with the iron rods, cried out saying "Aurelian, tyrant and wicked man, why do you thus cruelly and wickedly torture one who has done nothing wrong? (My Lord Jesus) Christ supports me in these tortures; but the eternal fire will receive you, which has been prepared for you and the devil, (he who prompts you to do these things to us).
̒А҅урилиꙗ҅нъ рече · кⸯде ѥ҅стъ сестра твоꙗ ѭ҄же тꙑ мѣниши дѣвѫ сѫштѫ· се посълахъ ѭ҄ на блѫдъ· да прои҅дѫтъ ѭ҄ вь҆си хотꙙштеи҆· да не ѥ҅ште дѣва ѥстъ· Ст꙯ꙑи паулъ рече · Αὐριλλιανὸς εἶπεν· „Ποῦ ἐστιν... ἡ ἀδελφή σου, ἣν λέγεις εἶναι... παρθένον; ἰδοὺ ἀπηνέχθη εἰς τὸ πορνεῖον, μὴ ἔτι παρθένος ἐστίν;”. Παῦλος εἶπεν· Aurelian said "Where (Paulus) is (Juliana) your sister, who you said was (prudent and) a virgin? Do you know that she has been forced into a brothel, and is no longer a virgin?" Paulus said
вѣроуѭ҄ богоу лъгъчꙙштꙋо҄умоу ми болѣꙁни· и҅ їꙁбавьꙗѭ҄шта мꙙ о҅тъ вь҆сѣхъ ꙁълꙑи҅хъ твои҅хъ о҄умꙑшлꙗи҆· ꙗко и҅ тѫ и҅матъ покрꙑти· посъла бо а҅гⸯг҄ела своѥ҅го съ вꙑсотъ небесъскꙑихъ съхранити ѭ҄· и҅ се чисто и҅ прѣчисто и҅мѫшти дѣвъство въꙁвраштаѥ҅тъ сꙙ видѣти ѫ҅ꙁꙑ моѧ· Πιστεύω τῷ θεῷ τῷ ἐπικουφίζοντί με... ἐκ τῶν πονηρῶν σου ἐπινοιῶν, ὅτι καὶ αὐτὴν ἐσκέπασεν... ἐξαπέστειλεν γὰρ τὸν ἄγγελον αὐτοῦ ἐξ ὕψους οὐρανῶν τοῦ διαφυλάξαι αὐτήν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄχραντος καὶ καθαρὰν ἔχουσα τὴν παρθενίαν ὑποστρέφει ἰδεῖν τὰ δεσμά μου”. "I trust in God who supports me (all the time) against your evil designs, that he has watched over her also, (and has kept her spotless); for he sent his angel from the highest heavens to guard her, and know that undefiled, and retaining her pure virgin-ity, she is coming to see me in my bonds."
и҅ повелѣ а҅урилиꙗнъ привести ст꙯ѫѭ҄ и҅о҄улиꙗ҅ниѭ҄· и҅ пришедъши ѥ҅и къ сѫдиїштꙋ· видѣвъ ѭ҄ паулъ и҅спль҆ни сꙙ радости и҅ просмиꙗ сꙙ· ̓А҅урилиꙗ҅нъ же рече· насꙑтишꙙ ли сꙙ любь҆ѥ҅ници твои҆ добротꙑ твоѥ҅ѧ· Καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ Αὐριλλιανὸς ἀχθῆναι τὴν Ἰουλιανήν, Παραγενομένης δὲ αὐτῆς ἐπὶ τὸ βῆμα, ἰδὼν αὐτὴν ὁ Παῦλος καὶ χαρᾶς... πλησθεὶς ἐγέλασεν. Ὁ δὲ Αὐριλλιανὸς εἶπεν... „ ἐνεπλήσθησαν οἱ ἐρασταί σου τοῦ κάλλους σου. Then Aurelian sent for Juliana to be brought. When she arrived at the judgment-seat and Paulus saw her, being filled with great joy he smiled. But Aurelian said (to Juliana) "Have those who desired you had their fill of your beauty?"
Їӱлиꙗни рече · моꙗ҆ доброта и҅ оукрашениѥ и лѣпота х꙯с ѥ҅стъ· и҅же посъла а҅гⸯг҄ела своѥ҅го и҅ покрꙑ мꙙ о҄убогѫѭ҄ ꙗ҅ко о҄упⸯвахъ на н҄ь· Ἰουλιανὴ εἶπεν· „Ἐμοῦ τὸ κάλλος καὶ ἡ κόσμησις καὶ ἡ εὐπρέπεια Χριστός ἐστιν, ὃς ἐξαπέστειλεν τὸν ἄγγελον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐσκέπασέν με τὴν ταπεινὴν, ὅτι πέποιθα ἐπ' αὐτόν... Juliana said "My beauty and adornment and dignity is Christ, who sent his angel and watched over me, his humble servant, because I trusted in him, (therefore I thank him)
и҅ славьѭ҄ ст꙯оѥ имꙙ ѥго· ꙗ҅ко тъ ѥ҅стъ б꙯ъ творꙙи чоудеса· и҅ нѣстъ и҅ного раꙁвѣ того· и҅ повелѣ аурилиꙗ҅нъ отрѣшити паула· ї и҅скопати ровъ въ ꙁеми девꙙти лакътъ· и принести дръва и҅ о҅гн҄ь и҅ жешти въ ровѣ· καὶ δοξάζω τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ ὄνομα, ὅτι αὐτός ἐστιν ... ὁ ποιῶν θαυμάσια καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν θεὸς ἄλλος πλὴν αὐτοῦ”. Καὶ ἐκέλευσεν Αὐριλλιανὸς λυθῆναι τὸν Παῦλον προστάξας ὀρυγῆναι βόθρον εἰς τὴν γῆν ἐπὶ ἀνδρόμηκα τρία καὶ ἐνεχθῆναι ξύλα καὶ πῦρ καὶ ἐκκαίεσθαι τὸν βόθρον. and I glorify his holy name because he (alone) does wonders, and there is no other God except him." And Aurelian ordered Paulus to be loosed, and having commanded a pit to be dug in the ground, equal in depth to the height of three men, and logs and fire to be thrown into it and the whole pit was to be made into a furnace.
и҅ томоу бесѣдоуѭ҄штоу и҅скопашꙙ ровъ· и҅ принесошꙙ дръва и огн҄ь· и҅ їждегошꙙ въ ровѣ· таже повелѣ вь҆врѣшти паула и҅ улиꙗ҅ниѭ҄ въ о҅гн҄ь· о҅на же и҅дѫшта благословьꙗ҅ста бога· и҅ мол҄ꙗста сп꙯са їс꙯ хс꙯а помошть҆ника· Οἱ δὲ δήμιοι σπουδαίως τὸ προσταχθὲν αὐτοῖς ἐποίουν καὶ ὤρυξαν τὸν βόθρον καὶ ἐξέκαυσαν αὐτὸν σφοδρῶς. Καὶ οὕτως ἐκέλευσεν... ἀκοντίσαι τὸν Παῦλον καὶ τὴν Ἰουλιανὴν εἰς τὸ πῦρ· οἱ δὲ ἅγιοι ἀπῄεσαν... αἰνοῦντες τὸν θεὸν καὶ ἐπικαλούμενοι τὸν σωτῆρα... Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν βοηθῆσαι... The executioners zealously carried out their orders and dug the pit and made the fire with great zest. Then Aurelian ordered Paulus and Juliana to be put to death in the fire; but the saints went to the place praising God and calling upon their savior (and Lord) Jesus Christ to help (them in the pit of fire).
и пришедъша на мѣсто· прѣкръстиста лици свои҆· о҅браꙁомъ крестънꙑи҅мъ хс꙯овомъ· и҅ въвръгошꙙ ꙗ въ о҅гн҄ь· и҅ бѣаста въ огн҄и поѭ҄шта и хвалꙙшта бога· и҅ се агⸯг҄елъ гн꙯ь съшедъ съ небесе· и҅стрꙙсе вънъ пешть҆ницѫ съ о҅гн҄емъ· καὶ ἐλθόντες ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον σφραγισάμενοι τὰ ἑαυτῶν μέλη τῷ τύπῳ τοῦ σταυροῦ τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἔριψαν ἑαυτοὺς εἰς τὸ πῦρ. Καὶ ἦσαν ἐν τῷ πυρὶ αἰνοῦντες καὶ δοξάζοντες τὸν θεὸν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος κυρίου καταβὰς ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἐξετίναξεν ἔξω τὸν καπνὸν σὺν τῷ πυρὶ And having come to the place, having made on their limbs the sign of the Cross of Christ, they threw themselves into the fire. And they were in the fire praising and glorifying God, and behold an angel of the Lord, coming down from Heaven drove away the smoke together with the fire,
и҅ не дастъ о҅гню сътѫжити и҅ма· и҅ поꙗаста благословꙙшта б꙯а въ ровѣ о҅гн҄ьнѣѣмъ поѭ҄горѫштиїмъ· глагол҄ѫшта благословьѥ҅нъ ѥ҅си г꙯и б꙯е вьсѣхъ вѣкⸯ· бесъмрь҆тънꙑи҆· иже помꙙнѫ о҄убожьство наше· недостоиномъ сѫштемⸯ грѣхъ ради нашихъ· беꙁъ҆ловенъ сꙑ и благъ· ꙗ҅ви сꙙ нама о҄угасити силѫ о҆гⸯн҄ѣ· и ꙗ҅рость мѫчител҄ꙗ а҅урилиана· καὶ οὐκ εἴασεν τὸ πῦρ... παρενοχλῆσαι αὐτοῖς. Καὶ ἦσαν ἑστῶτες ἐν τῷ βόθρῳ εὐλογοῦντες τὸν θεὸν καὶ λέγοντες... „Εὐλογητός εἶ, κύριε ὁ θεός... τῶν αἰώνων, ὃς ἐμνήσθης τῆς ταπεινώσεως ἡμῶν, καὶ ἐπιφανεῖς ἡμῖν ἔσβεσας τὴν κάμινον τοῦ πυρός...” and did not allow the fire (at all) to trouble them. And they were standing in the pit praising God and saying (thus) "Be praised, Lord God, (king of the ages) who has remembered us in our lowliness, and [hast shone forth upon us, coming into the furnace of] (through thy forgiving goodness, having saved us, who are unworthy,from the evil intentions) of the tyrant Aurelian; (for he thinks he is immortal)."
и҅ слꙑшаа҆хѫ ѥ҅ю҄ народи о҅тъдалече стоѧште· бѣа҅хѫ бо мноꙁи молꙙште сꙙ о҅ н҄ею҄ къ богоу· ꙗ҅коже и҅ многомъ о҅тъ поганъ покаꙗти сꙙ и҅ раꙁврѣсти срь҆дь҆ца о҅ свꙙтоую҄· и҅ о҄уклонити сꙙ о҅тъ коумирослꙋжениꙗ и҅ вѣровати хс꙯оу· Ταῦτα δὲ αὐτῶν προσευξαμένων πολλοὶ τῶν Ἑλλήνων θεωροῦντες τοῦ θεοῦ τὴν δύναμιν κατανυγέντες ἀπέστησαν τῆς εἰδωλολατρείας καὶ ἐπίστευσαν τῷ Χριστῷ. While they prayed thus, many of the Greeks, seeing the power of God, their consciences being pricked, turned away from idolatry and believed in Christ. Many (also) of the executioners who had tortured them, seeing the kindness wrought by God (towards them) (were converted and) believed in Christ.
мноꙁи же отъ сѣчецъ мѫчꙙштиїхъ ст꙯аꙗ повелѣниѥ҅мъ а҅урилиꙗн҄емъ· видꙙште силꙑ бꙑваѥ҅мꙑѧ богомъ· вѣровашꙙ къ богоу· и вьꙁвѣстишꙙ а҅урилиꙗ҅ноу вьса бꙑвьшаꙗ· и повелѣ тоу сѫштаꙗ въ ровѣ камениѥ҅мъ побити· Πολλοὶ δὲ καὶ τῶν δημίων τῶν αἰκισάντων αὐτοὺς θεωροῦντες τὰς εὐεργεσίας τὰς ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ... γινομένας... ἐπίστευον τῷ Χριστῷ. Ἀνηγγέλη δὲ τῷ Αὐριλλιανῷ ἅπαντα τὰ γεγενημένα καὶ ἐκέλευσεν λιθοβοληθῆναι αὐτοὺς ὄντας ἐν τῷ βόθρῳ. All these things were reported to Aurelian and he ordered that they should be stoned while still in the pit.
и҅ се напрасно шоумъ и҅ громъ сь҆ небесе многамі мль҆ниꙗ҅ми облаци движꙙште сꙙ пльни о҅гн҄ѣ· и҅ придошꙙ о҅блаци дожи ї до а҅урилиꙗ҅на и҅ сташꙙ и҅ їꙁлиꙗ҅шꙙ о҅гн҄ь на ꙁемьѭ҄· и҅ гласъ съ небесе глагол҄ꙙ· а҅урилиꙗн ъ идетъ въ родьство огн҄ьноѥ· о҄уготованоѥ ѥмоу и҅ отⸯцоу ѥго диꙗволоу· Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄφνω ἦχος βροντῆς σὺν πολλαῖς ἀστραπαῖς ἐγένετο ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν καὶ νεφέλαι ὡράθησαν κινούμεναι καὶ γέμουσαι πυρὸς καὶ ἦλθον κατέναντι Αὐριλλιανοῦ καὶ ἐξέχεαν τὸ πῦρ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ φωνὴ ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν ἐγένετο πρὸς αὐτόν· „Αὐριαλλιανέ, εἴσελθε εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον τῆς γεέννης τοῦ πυρὸς τὴν ἡτοιμασμένην σοὶ καὶ τῷ πατρί σου τῷ διαβόλῳ”. And behold suddenly there came a roar of thunder with many flashes of lightning from Heaven, and clouds were seen coming up full of fire, and they came right over against Aurelian, and [the fire shone out] upon the earth, and a voice from Heaven came to him "Aurelian, go to the abyss of the Gehenna of fire which has been prepared for you and for your father the devil."
и по сихъ · посълавъ а҅урилиꙗнъ повелѣ и҅ꙁвлѣшти ꙗ и҅ꙁдрова· и въ темⸯницѫ въврѣшти· и бѣа҅ста славꙙшта бога· о҅ чоудесехъ ꙗ҅же сътвори о н҄ею҄· Τούτων δὲ γενομένων ἀποστείλας Αὐριλλιανὸς ἐκέλευσεν τοὺς ἀθλοφόρους καὶ μάρτυρας τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἀνασπασθῆναι ἐκ τοῦ βόθρου καὶ ἐμβληθῆναι εἰς τὸ δεσμωτήριον. Καὶ ἦσαν... δοξάζοντες τὸν θεὸν ἐπὶ... τοῖς θαυμασίοις, οἷς ἐποίησεν εἰς αὐτούς. When this had happened Aurelian sent and ordered the champions and martyrs of Christ to be drawn up out of the pit and put into prison. And (the saints) were glorifying God for all the wonders which he had done for them.
и по седⸯми дь҆ниї и҅ꙁиде а҅урилиꙗнъ и҅ сѣде на сѫдишти· и҅ принесошѧ ѥ҅ликоже бѣаше о҄у н҄его коумирь· съребрь҆нꙑ и ꙁлатꙑ· о҄украшенꙑ камениѥ҅мъ многоцѣнънꙑи҅мъ· Καὶ μεθ' ἡμέρας ἑπτὰ ἀναστὰς... ὁ Αὐριλλιανὸς ἐκαθέσθη πρὸ βήματος καὶ ἐκέλευσεν τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν ἐνεγκεῖν ὅσα ὑπῆρχεν αὐτοῖς εἴδωλα ἀργυρᾶ τε καὶ χρυσᾶ, κεκοσμημένα λίθοις τιμίοις καὶ πολυτελέσιν. And after seven days Aurelian getting up (at dawn) sat on the judgment-seat and ordered the priests to bring in whatever idols of silver and gold belonged to them, adorned with precious stones (and costly).
и҅ постави ѧ по чиноу· подъстълавъ подъ ногꙑ и҅хъ багърѣницѫ цѣсарь҆скѫ· и҅ рече ꙁови паула и҅ ӱлиꙗ҅ниѭ҄· и҅ постави ꙗ прѣдъ сѫдииштемъ· и҅ прѣтꙙ и҅ма рече· пристѫпьша пожь҆рѣта богомъ· а не надѣи҅та сꙙ и҅ꙁбѣжати рѫкоу моѥ҅ю҄· Καὶ ἔστησαν αὐτὰ ἐνώπιον Αὐριλλιανοῦ στρώσαντος ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ πορφύραν βασιλικήν. Καὶ εἶπεν... · „Καλέσατε Παῦλον καὶ Ἰουλιανήν... ”. Ἔστησεν αὐτοὺς πρὸ βήματος καὶ ἀπειλούμενος αὐτοῖς... εἶπεν· „Προσελθόντες θύσατε τοῖς θεοῖς· μὴ γὰρ νομίσητε ἐκφυγεῖν μου τὰς χεῖρας”. And these were set up facing Aurelian, who had the royal purple spread under his feet. And Aurelian said "Call Paulus and Juliana." And when they came he made them stand before the throne, and threatening them (arrogantly) he said "Now that you have come here, sacrifice to the gods; do not think that you have escaped from my hands."
Ст꙯ъи҅ же паулъ о҅склабивъ сѧ рече· не о҅ставьѭ҄ бога сътворьшааго небо и ꙁемь҆ѭ҄· и҅ поклон҄ѭ сꙙ коумиремъ· Аурилиꙗ҅нъ рече · ꙁълосъмрь҆ть҆не и҅ непрѣподобь҆не· коумири ли ти сꙙ мь҆нꙙтъ а не боꙁи· не видиши ли каци сѫтъ· Ὁ δὲ Παῦλος μειδιάσας εἶπεν· „Οὐ καταλιμπάνομεν... τὸν θεὸν τὸν ποιήσαντα τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ προσκυνοῦμεν εἰδώλοις”. Αὐριλλιανὸς εἶπεν· „Βιοθάνατε, εἴδωλά σοι δοκοῦσιν εἶναι καὶ οὐχὶ θεοί; ἢ οὐχ ὁρᾷς πῶς χρηματίζουσιν”. But Paulus, smiling said "We do not turn away (o tyrant) from God who made heaven and earth, and worship idols." Aurelian said "Dead-and-alive man, do they seem to you to be idols and not gods? Do you not see how [they threaten you] ?"
Ст꙯ъи же паулъ отъвѣштавъ рече· сего диꙗ· ѥ҅гоже мѣниши богоу бꙑти· чловѣкъ бѣ о҄ученикъ сотонинъ· навꙑкъ ꙁѣло хꙑтрость҆ вль҆шебънѫѭ҄· блѫдьникъ сꙑ и҅ꙁлиха паче вь҆сѣхъ чловѣкъ· живѫштиихъ· видѧ чловѣчьскꙑ добрꙑѧ женꙑ и дьштери· Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Παῦλος εἶπεν· „Τοῦτον τὸν Δία, ὃν λέγεις εἶναι θεόν, ἄνθρωπος ἦν υἱὸς τῶν ἀποστατῶν, μεμαθηκὼς ἀκριβῶς τέχνην τὴν μαγικήν, ἄσῳτος δὲ ὑπάρχων εἰς ὑπερβολὴν ὑπὲρ πάντας· ἀνθρώπους τοὺς κατὰ τὸν βίον ὄντας, θεωρῶν τὰς τῶν ἀνθρώπων περικαλλεῖς γυναίκας καὶ θυγατέρας Paulus answering said "This Zeus, who you say is a god, was a man, the son of apostates (?) (rebels?), who carefully learned magic arts, but wickedly he became excessive in his pride above all men living, seeing with his own eyes the very beautiful wives and daughters of the celebrants of the religious festivals,
тѣмъ похотꙙ и҅ вь лице бесѣдоуѧ и҅мъ· и҅ съвъкоупл҄ѣѧ сꙙ сь҆ н҄ими· прѣврати ѧ чисти ї а҅кꙑ бога· своѥ҅ѭ҄ вльхвовънѫѭ҄ хꙑтростиѭ҄ и҅ꙁмѣнꙗѧ҅ сꙙ· и҅же прѣтварѣше сꙙ о҅вогда тоуромъ бꙑвъ· о҅вогда же крилатамъ пⸯтицамъ подобꙙ сꙙ· о҅рълоу и҅ стръкоу· τούτων ὁρῶν καὶ αὐτοψεῖ ὁμιλῶν αὐταῖς καὶ συμμιγνύμενος, ποτὲ μὲν ἀλλοιούμενος μετεβάλλετο εἰς ταῦρον, ποτὲ δὲ ἀφομοιούμενος πετεινῷ ἢ ἀετῷ ἢ κύκνῳ... and mingling with them in crowds, sometimes he changed his form into a bull, sometimes he became like a winged eagle or a swan: he struck them with amazement and caused them to worship him as a god; and not them only, but also the rest of the Spartan women
и҅же тѣмъ и҅ꙁмѣн҄ениїмъ прѣльсти женꙑ доброродь҆нꙑѧ· о҅вѣмъ бо ꙗ҅ви сꙙ въ ꙁлато прѣложь҆ сꙙ· и богатьство о҅бѣштаваѧ· нъ да не вь҆сего по рꙙдоу и҅ꙁглагол҄ѫ вѣдѣ бо ꙗ҅ко гнѣвае҅ши сꙙ· δι' ἀλλοιώσεως... ἠπάτησεν εἰς χρυσὸν... μεταβαλλόμενος. Καὶ ἵνα μὴ τὰ ἀσελγήματα τούτου λέγω, οἶδα γὰρ ὅτι χολᾷς... he tricked them by his changes of form and his magic and was changed into gold (and silver). And so that I may not speak of his licentious deeds (for I see that you are growing angry;
Сии҆ же и҅же блиꙁъ диꙗ· глагол҄емꙑи҆ а҅полонъ· не о҅тъ блѫда ли роди сꙙ· о҅тъ женꙑ рекомꙑѧ литоус· ꙗ҅же не роди ли того въ поустꙑн҄и а҅сии҅стѣи посрѣдѣ дъвою҄ дѫбоу· Οὗτος ὁ πλησίον ἑστὼς τοῦ Διὸς ὁ λεγόμενος Ἀπόλλων οὐχὶ ἐκ πορνείας ἐγεννήθη, ἐκ γυναικὸς τῆς λεγομένης Λητώ, ἥτις τοῦτον ἔτεκεν ἐπ' ἐρημίᾳ τῆς Ἀσίας μέσον δύο φυτῶν; (even though you are angry, it does not concern me), this man standing near Zeus, he who is called Apollo, was he not born of an immoral union, of a woman called Leto, who bore to him in the midst of the deserts of Asia two children (twins)?
ꙗ҅ко и҅ тъ сь҆твори дѣла непрѣподобьна· подражаѧ о҅ть҆ца своѥ҅го· такожде же и҅ дио҅нусь҆· нарочитꙑи҆ вашь богъ· нѣ ли ї тъ о҅тъ блѫда родилъ сꙙ· бꙑвъ о҅тъ семелиѧ кадⸯмовꙑ· Ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἐποίησεν ἔργα οὐχ ὅσια μιμούμενος τὸν ἑαυτὸν πατέρα. Ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Διόνυσος ὁ ἐπισημότερος ὑμῶν θεός, οὐχὶ καὶ αὐτὸς ἐκ πορνείας ἐγεννήθη ἐκ τῆς Σεμέλης τῆς Κάδμου;” He also has done unholy deeds, imitating his father. Similarly, Dionysus also, your most notorious (or distinguished) god, was he not born of an immoral union with Semele, daughter of Cadmus?"
̒А҅урилиꙗнъ рече· ѫ҅роде непрѣподобьнꙑи· о҅тъ крона и҅ е҅реѧ раждаѭ҄тъ сꙙ матери божь҆скꙑѧ· паулъ о҅склабивъ сꙙ рече· то ѥ҅стъ ли богъ женѫ и҅мꙑ· Αὐριλλιανὸς εἶπεν· „Λῆρε καὶ ἀνόσιε, ἐκ τῆς Ἥρας γεννᾶται τῆς μητρὸς τῶν θεῶν”. Παῦλος μειδιάσας εἶπεν· „Ἔστιν θεὸς... γυναῖκα ἔχων;”. Aurelian said "Worthless and impious wretch, he was born of Hera, the mother of the gods." Paulus, smiling, said "Is he a god who is born of a woman or has a wife?"
̓Аурилиꙗнъ рече· непрѣподобьнꙑи ѫ҅роде· доколѣ хоулꙑ глагол҄еши о боꙁѣхъ много блꙙдꙑ· и҅ досаждаѧ· а҅ х꙯с вашъ ѥ҅гоже глагол҄ете вꙑ крь҆стиꙗ҅ни бꙑти богоу небесьскоуоумꙋ· не о҅тъ женꙑ ли роди сꙙ· Αὐριλλιανὸς εἶπεν· „Ἕως πότε βλασφημεῖς, ἀνόσιε, κατὰ τῶν θεῶν πολλὰ φλυαρῶν· οὐχὶ καὶ ὁ ὑμέτερος Χριστός, ὃν λέγετε ὑμεῖς οἱ Χριστιανοὶ εἶναι θεὸν οὐράνιον, ἐκ γυναικὸς ἐγεννήθη;”. Aurelian said ["Up to now you have been blaspheming] , impious wretch, talking nonsense about the gods: was not your Christ also, whom you Christians declare to be the God of Heaven, born of a woman?"
Ст꙯ꙑи҅ же паулъ о҅тъвѣштавъ рече· нѣси о҄убо достои҅нⸯнъ слꙑшати таи҅нъ бж꙯иї· да не блꙙдь҆ми своими прѣльстиши о҅тъ прѣдьстоѧ҅штиїхъ сихъ и҅ погоубиши· потрѣба ѥ҅стъ решти· въ начꙙло сътвори богъ небо и ꙁемьѭ҄ и вⸯса ꙗ҅же на н҄ею҄· послѣжде же вь҆сѣхъ съꙁъда чловѣка по о҅браꙁоу своѥ҅моу· Παῦλος εἶπεν· ,,Οὐκ εἶ ἄξιος ἀκοῦσαι τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ θεοῦ ἵνα δὲ μὴ διὰ τῆς πιθανολογίας σου ταύτης πολλοὺς τῶν παρεστώτων... ἀπολέσῃς, ἀναγκαῖον εἰπεῖν· ἐν ἀρχῇ ποιήσας ὁ θεὸς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν... καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐν αὐτοῖς ἔσχατον πάντων ἔπλασεν καὶ τὸν ἄνθρωπον κατ' εἰκόνα ἑαυτοῦ... Paulus said "You are not worthy to hear the mystery of God, but so that you may not destroy all these bystanders (who are deceived) by (this) argument of yours, it is necessary to say: In the beginning when God had made heaven and earth (and the sea) and all that is in them, he made last of all man (also) in his own image, (and in his likeness)

Χρόνου δὲ διελθόντος εἶπεν ὁ θεός· οὐ καλὸν εἶναι τὸν ἄνθρωπον μόνον· ποιήσωμεν αὐτῷ βοηθὸν κατ' αὐτόν... „Ποιήσωμεν”... τουτέστιν ὁ πατὴρ καὶ ὁ υἱὸς... οὔτε γὰρ ποιεῖ ὁ πατὴρ ἄνευ τοῦ υἱοῦ, οὔτε ὁ υἱὸς ἄνεν τοῦ πατρός, who is according to virtue, free of evil, blameless, just, pious, and he placed him in the paradise of delight. (Now your father the devil was at that time an archangel, and his name was Satanael, that is interpreted as "Messenger of the Most High God", and he was trusted by God, over all that is in the firmament of Heaven, having under him command over the angels. This Satanael seeing that the Most High loved man exceedingly, whom his creative hands had made, was jealous when he sat down in the firmament, and looking intently towards the height of Heaven he saw God, the Lord of all, sitting upon the throne of his glory, and the whole throng of angels and archangels standing in a circle around him, and the cherubim and seraphim with them. And Satanael pondered in his heart evil thoughts against the Most High, saying "I will place my throne in Heaven and I will be equal to the Most High"(just as Isaiah the prophet witnesses about him). But the God of all, knowing his evil thoughts, hurled him down from the firmament, and cut his name in half, so that he is no longer called Satanael, but Satan. Having been thrown to earth, he was wandering about from the East to the West, and in his wanderings he came to the paradise of delight, and he watched Adam carefully, seeking for a way to overthrow him and destroy him; for he used to see God coming down from Heaven in a pillar of cloud and talking to Adam; and the devil was angry, seeing that he himself had been driven away from the Lord's face. And he was not able to do anything against Adam.
и҅ рече· наведе г꙯ь о҄ужасть сь҆на а҅дама· и҅ приїмъ ѥ҅дⸯно о҅тъ ребрⸯ ѥ҅го· сътвори ѥ҅моу женѫ· о҅тъ свои҅хъ ѥ҅моу о҄удовъ· и҅ бѣа҅ше съ а҅дамомъ е҅уа въ раи҆· ѭ҄же видѣвъ диꙗ҅волъ и҅ въꙁдревъновавъ· сътвори погꙑбѣль҆ и҅ма· о҅тълѫчивъшоу бо сꙙ а҅дамоу на о҅но мѣсто породꙑ· καί φησιν· ἐπήγαγεν ὁ θεὸς ἔκστασιν ἐπὶ τὸν Ἀδάμ... καὶ λαβὼν μίαν τῶν πλευρῶν αὐτοῦ ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ γυναῖκα ἐκ τῶν ἰδίων αὐτοῦ μελῶν, καὶ ἦν μετὰ τοῦ Ἀδὰμ ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ. Ἣν ἰδὼν ὁ διάβολος πρὸς βραχὺ ἀποχωρισθεῖσαν τοῦ Ἀδάμ εἰς ἕτερον μέρος τοῦ παραδείσου But as time passed, God said "It is not good for man to be alone; let us make him a helpmate like him." "Let us make" (with a common will) [or possibly "according to the usual opinion"] that is the Father and the Son (and the Holy Spirit); for the Father does nothing without the Son, nor the Son without the Father. And they say "God sent down a trance [upon them] , (and he slept); and taking one of his ribs, he made a woman for him out of his own body, and she was with Adam in paradise (or in the Garden)

Ἀμφότεροι δὲ ἐν παρακοῇ θεοῦ γενόμενοι ἐξεβλήθησαν ἔξω τοῦ παραδείσου τῆς τρυφῆς ἐργάζεσθαι τὴν γῆν ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν, When the devil saw her for a short time to go away from Adam to another part of the garden, he tricked her, having taken the form of a serpent; and the woman herself tricked her husband. Both of them therefore having become disobedient to God were driven out of the paradise of delight to work the soil with their hands.
и҅ троудноѥ житиѥ вь҆сприїмъша· жиста девꙙть сътъ· и҅ л꙯ лѣтъ· родивъша сн꙯ꙑ и҅ дьштери· о҅тъ н҄ихъже и҅спⸯлъни сꙙ миръ вь҆сь҆· а҅дамоу же о҅тъ о҅слоушаниꙗ конець приѥ҅мⸯшоу по девꙙти сътъ и҅ тридесꙙти лѣтѣхъ· καὶ μοχθηρὸν βίον ἀναλαβόντες ἔζησαν ἐννακόσια τριάκοντα ἔτη γεννήσαντες υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας, ἐξ ὧν ἐπληρώθη ὁ κόσμος. Τοῦ δὲ Ἀδὰμ ἐκ τῆς παρακοῆς τέλος... λαβόντος μετὰ ἐννακόσια τριάκοντα ἔτη... And having undertaken this wretched life they lived nine hundred and thirty years, having begotten sons and daughters with whom the world was filled. When Adam from the time of his disobedience had reached the end [of his life] after 930 years,

Καὶ οὐκ ἦν διαφορὰ ἀναμέσον τοῦ δικαίου καὶ ἀναμέσον τοῦ ἁμαρτωλοῦ, ἀλλ' ἦν ὁ δίκαιος ὡς ὁ ἁμαρτωλός, καθὼς [the devil having power over him as a penalty for his sin, he placed him in Hades and having followed him closely according to this decree] the devil drew down all our fathers into Hades to dwell with death. And there was no distinction between the just man and the sinner, but the just man was like the sinner,
ꙗ҅коже блаженꙑи҆ паулъ а҅постолъ свѣтило црьквьноѥ҆ сьвѣдѣтел҄ьствова глагол҄ꙙ· цѣсарьствова съ҆мрь҆ть҆ о҅тъ а҅дама дожи ї до мѡ҄сеа҆· и҅ не о съгрѣшивъшиїхъ· богъ же небесьскꙑи҆ по мноꙁѣхъ родѣхъ· о̑услꙑшавъ стенаниꙗ и҅ молитвꙑ дръжимꙑи҅хъ а҅домъ· свои҅мъ словомъ· ѥ҅же ѥ҅стъ ѥ҅го ѥдночꙙдꙑи сн꙯ъ· по строю҄ и҅ꙁволи чловѣческъ родъ въсприѧ҅ти· и҅ раꙁдрѣшити о҅слоушаниѥ послоушаниѥ҅мъ· καὶ ὁ μακάριος Παῦλος, ὁ λύχνος τῆς ἐκκλησίας, ἐμαρτύρησεν λέγων· ἐβασίλευσεν ὁ θάνατος ἀπὸ Ἀδὰμ μέχρι Μωσέως καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς μὴ ἁμαρτήσαντας... Ὁ οὖν θεὸς ὁ οὐράνιος μετὰ πολλὰς γενεὰς εἰσακούσας τοῦ στεναγμοῦ καὶ τῆς δεήσεως τῶν κατεχομένων ὑπὸ τοῦ ᾅδου ἐξαπέστειλεν τὸν ἴδιον αὐτοῦ λόγον πρὸς τὸ φορέσαι σάρκα ἀνθρωπίνην καὶ λῦσαι... as blessed Paul, the light of the Church, has borne witness, saying "Death ruled from Adam to the time of Moses even over those who had not sinned, [over the likeness of the transgression of Adam.]" Therefore the God of Heaven, after many generations, hearing the groaning and entreaties of those confined in Hades, sent forth his own Word, to wear human flesh and to set free those held by the unrighteous one, and to liberate Adam from his guilt.

благовѣсти сꙙ гауриїломъ а҅рⸯхагⸯг҄еломъ· дѣвѣ ст꙯ѣ и҅ прѣчистѣ о҅тъ рода цѣсарь҆ска сѫшти· и҅менемь мариꙗ· глагол҄ѫштоу· дх꙯ъ ст꙯ꙑи вь҆нидетъ въ тꙙ и҅ сила вꙑшь҆нꙗа҅го о҅бьсѣнитъ тꙙ· ꙁан҄е и҅ раждаѥ҅моѥ о҅тъ тебе с꙯то· нарачетъ сꙙ с꙯нъ бж꙯иї· εὐηγγελίσθη διὰ Γαβριὴλ τοῦ ἀρχαγγέλου παρθένῳ ἁγίᾳ καθαρᾷ τε... ἐκ γένους προφητικοῦ τυγχανούσῃ... Τοῦ Γαβριὴλ εἰπόντος... πνεῦμα ἅγιον ἐπελεύσεται ἐπὶ σέ, καὶ δύναμις ὑψίστου ἐπισκιάσει σοι· διὸ καὶ τὸ γεννώμενον ἐκ σοῦ ἅγιον κληθήσεται υἱὸς θεοῦ. (his coming) was announced by Gabriel the archangel to a virgin, holy and pure (and most revered), coming from a prophetic family, whom dwelt, and the heavenly invisible Word took flesh from the womb of the virgin, (as Gabriel) had said to the virgin Mary; ("Greeting, most highly favoured one, the Lord is with you"; and again) "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will make you ready; therefore also the Holy being who will be born of you will be called the Son of God."
и҅ раждаѥ҅тъ сꙙ о҅тъ свꙙтаа҅го дх꙯а· и҅ о҅тъ непорочьнꙑѧ и҅ прѣчистꙑѧ дѣвꙑ· миръска̓го ради строꙗ и҅ съпасениꙗ· никⸯтоже бо можааше свои҅ма о҅чима б꙯а бесплътъна видѣти· о҅гн҄ь бо ѥ҅стъ о҅палꙗѧ҅ б꙯ъ· и҅ никⸯтоже о҅тъ чловѣкъ б꙯а видѣвъ живъ бѫдетъ· Γεννᾶται οὖν... διὰ τῆς ἀχράντου καὶ καθαρᾶς παρθένου... διὰ τὴν τοῦ κόσμου οἰκονομίαν τε καὶ σωτηρίαν· οὐδεὶς γὰρ ἠδύνατο αὐτοψεὶ θεὸν ἰδεῖν· πῦρ γάρ ἐστιν καταναλίσκον ὁ θεὸς καὶ οὐδεὶς ἀνθρώπων πρόσωπον θεοῦ ἑωρακὼς ζήσεται. Therefore (God and the heavenly Word) was born through the undefiled and pure virgin (for he clothed himself in a body like a garment) for the well-being and salvation of the world. For no-one was able to see God face to face. For God is a consuming fire and no man having looked upon God face to face shall live.
того ради о҄убо строꙗ҆· въплътироди сꙙ х͞с пль҆тиѭ҄· и҅ ѥ҅же о҄успѣваѥ҅тъ връстоѭ҄ по пльть҆скоуо҄умоу· и҅ сь҆прѣбꙑваатъ съ чл꙯кꙑ а҅кꙑ чловѣкъ вꙙште триї десꙙтъ лѣтъ· о҅бь҆ходꙙ градꙑ и҅ вь҆си· благодарь҆ствꙙ вь҆сꙙ о҄утомь҆ѥ҅нꙑѧ҆ диꙗволомь· Ταύτης τοίνυν χάριν τῆς οἰκονομίας γεννᾶται ὁ θεὸς τὸ κατὰ σάρκα καὶ γαλακτοτροφεῖται ὡς νήπιος, τέλειος ὢν τῇ θεότητι, καὶ γίνεται ἀφῆλιξ και ἐνῆλιξ καὶ συναναστρέφεται μετὰ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ὡς ἄνθρωπος πλείω τριάκοντα ἔτη διερχόμενος πόλεις τε... καὶ κώμας... εὐεργετῶν πάντας τοὺς καταπονουμένους ὑπὸ τοῦ διαβόλου. Therefore, for the sake of the world's well-being God was born according to the flesh, and was suckled as an infant, although he was perfect in his divine nature, and he became a full-grown man in the prime of life and lived among men as a man for more than 30 years, traveling through cities and country regions and villages (of the world) doing good to all those in bondage to the devil.
и҅ потомь҆ пригваждаѥ҅тъ сꙙ на дрѣвѣ крь҆сть҆нѣѣмь҆· страждꙙ миръскаа҅го ради съпасениꙗ҆· сьнабь҆дѣти миръ погꙑбъшь· по прѣль҆штению҄ диꙗ҅волю· и҅ о҄умираа҅тъ по чловѣчь҆ствоу· и҅ погрібаѥ҅тъ сꙙ· сꙑ съвръшенъ присно· Εἰθ' οὕτως καὶ προσηλοῦται ἐπὶ ξύλου σταυροῦ τοῦ σῶσαι κόσμον ἀπαλωλότα κατὰ συναρπαγὴν τοῦ διαβόλου καὶ ἀπάτην καὶ ἀποθνῄσκει σαρκὶ... Then thus he was nailed to a wooden cross in order to save the world, which had been ruined by the double-dealing (and deceit) of the devil, he died according to the flesh (and going down into Hades in his holy soul "he shattered the bronze gates and crushed the iron bars", and going to the gloomy strongrooms of Hades he rescued all those who had been fettered and led them up from the fortress and prison of the devil, because of his love for mankind.

мъногомъ и҅же по и҅стинѣ вѣровавъшиїмъ вь҆ н҄ь· сь҆поживъ сь н҄ими· ꙗ҅дꙑ же и҅ пиѧ съ а҅плͨꙑ до четꙑрь҆ десꙙтъ дь҆ниї· и҅ вь҆ꙁиде на небеса и҅ сѣде о҅ деснѫѭ̑ отⸯца· съ пльтиѭ̑ сьмѣсивъшѫѭ̑ сꙙ съ бж꙯иѥ҅мъ словомъ· καὶ ἑτέροις πλείοσι τοῖς κατὰ ἀλήθειαν πιστεύσασιν αὐτῷ συμφαγὼν καὶ συμπιὼν μετὰ τῶν ἀποστόλων ἐπί ἡμέρας τεσσαράκοντα καὶ οὕτως ἀνελήφθη ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ πατρὸς σὺν τῷ σώματι, ᾧ ἡνώθη ὁ θεὸς λόγος. and to many others who believed in him in truth, eating and drinking with his apostles for forty days. Then he was raised into the heavens and sat at the right hand of the Father in his body, to which was united God the Word.
и҅ того ради видꙙи сотона· болитъ съкроушивъ сꙙ· съть҆ре бо и҆ х꙯с подъ ногама чловѣчь҆скама· и҅же чловѣци благодѣтиѭ̑ бж꙯иѭ̑ въходꙙтъ въ цѣсарьство небесъскоѥ· ѥ҅гоже тꙑ лихъ ѥ҅си· и҅маши бо чꙙсть о̑учꙙстиꙗ родь҆ства о҅гн҄ьнааго· и҅ сь҆причꙙсть҆никъ ѥ҅си отⸯцоу твоѥ҅моу диꙗволоу· Τοῦτον ὁρῶν ὁ διάβολος ὀδυνᾶται· συνέτριψεν γὰρ αὐτὸν ὁ Χριστὸς ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας τῶν Χριστιανῶν τῶν διὰ τοῦ ἁγίου αὐτοῦ ὀνόματος εἰσερχομένων εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν, ἧς σὺ ἀλλότριος τυγχάνεις· σὺ γὰρ ἔχεις κλῆρον καὶ μερίδα τὴν... γέενναν τοῦ πυρὸς συγκληρονόμος ὢν τοῦ πατρός σου τοῦ διαβόλου”. Seeing this, the devil was grieved; for Christ crushed him beneath the feet of the Christians who through his holy name are coming to the kingdom of Heaven, to which you are a stranger; for you have as your allotted place and portion the (everlasting) Ge-henna of fire, having the same lot assigned to you as your father the devil."
Си слꙑшавъ а҅урилиꙗ҅нъ лице своѥ и҅ꙁмѣн҄ѣа҅ше раꙁличь҆нѣ о҅тъ ꙗрости· и҅ скрь҆жьтаа҅ше ꙁѫбꙑ на н҄ь· ꙗ҅ко левъ въ дрꙙꙁдѣ траштꙙ ꙁвѣрь҆· и҅ не постигъ· и҅ о҅тъвѣштавъ рече къ ст꙯оуо̑умоу паулоу · Ταῦτα ἀκούσας ὁ Αὐριλλιανὸς ἠλλοιοῦτο τῷ προσώπῳ ἀπὸ τοῦ θυμοῦ καὶ ἔβρυχεν τοὺς ὀδόντας αὐτοῦ ἐπ' αὐτὸν καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· When Aurelian heard this his face changed in anger and he ground his teeth one against the other, and he said to him in answer
мⸯного ти блꙙдъшоу о҅жидахъ длъготрь҆пꙙ· ѫ҅роде и҅ непрѣподобь҆не· доколѣ о̑укараѥ҅ши и҅ хꙋлиши богꙑ· пристѫпивъ пожь҆ри богомъ· а҅ште ли ни· то ꙁьло ꙁь҆лѣ погоубьѭ̑ ва· да никⸯтоже въꙁможетъ и҅ꙁбавіти ваю̑ о҅тъ рѫкоу моѥ҅ю̑· „Πολλά σου φλυαρήσαντος ἠνεσχόμην μακροθυμῶν ἐπὶ σοί, λῆρε καὶ ἀνόσιε· καὶ σὺ ἕως πότε ἐπιμένεις ὑβρίζων με καὶ βλασφημῶν εἰς τοὺς θεούς; Νῦν οὖν εἰ μὴ προσελθόντες θύσητε αὐτοῖς, κακὴν κακῶς ἀπολέσω ὑμᾶς, ἵνα μηδεὶς δυνηθῇ ῥύσασθαι ὑμᾶς ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν μου”. "I have been patient with you while you talked a great deal of nonsense, being very long-suffering towards you, foolish and impious wretch; and do you still continue to insult me, and to blaspheme against the gods ? Now therefore if you do not approach and sacrifice to them, I will destroy you in a terrible manner, so that no one will be able to rescue you from my hands."
паулъ же и о̑улиꙗ҅ни въꙁъписта коупⸯно великомъ гласомъ глагол҄ѫшта крь҆стиꙗ҅на е҅свѣ· и҅ въ х꙯са и҅мавѣ надеждѫ· а҅ бѣсомъ не поклан҄ѣѥ҅вѣ сꙙ· и҅ богомъ твои҅мъ не слоуживѣ· и мѫкъ твои҅хъ не бои҅вѣ сꙙ· примꙑшлꙗи҅ о̑убо мѫкꙑ ѥ҅ликꙑ хоштеши· вѣроуѥ҅вѣ бо богоу ꙗ҅ко побѣжденъ бѫдеши нама· Παῦλος δὲ καὶ Ἰουλιανὴ ἀνεβόησαν ὁμοθυμαδὸν μεγάλῃ τῇ φωνῇ καὶ εἶπον· „Ἡμεῖς Χριστιανοί ἐσμεν καὶ εἰς τὸν Χριστὸν ἔχομεν τὰς ἐλπίδας, δαίμονας δὲ οὐ προσκυνοῦμεν καὶ τοῖς εἰδώλοις σου οὐ λατρεύομεν καὶ τὰς βασάνους σου οὐ φοβούμεθα. Ἐπινόει τοιγαροῦν τιμωρίας ὅσας βούλει· πιστεύομεν γὰρ τῷ θεῷ, ὅτι ἡττηθήσῃ ὑφ' ἡμῶν καθὼς... Paulus and Juliana raised their voices with one accord and said in a loud voice "We are Christians and we have our hope in Christ; we do not bow down to demons, we do not worship your idols, and we do not fear your tortures. Therefore plan whatever punishments you like; for we trust in God, that you will prove weaker than we are,
ꙗ҅коже и҅ диꙗ҅волъ побѣжденъ бꙑстъ· силѫ подаѭ̑штꙋ нама хс꙯оу· и҅ побѣждаѭ̑штоу твоѧ пронꙑривꙑѧ къꙁни· ̕И повелѣ а҅урилиꙗ҅нъ принести дрѣво велико· и҅ принесено бꙑстъ· и҅ рече · привꙙжате паула на н҄емь· ὁ διάβολος ἡττήθη ὑπὸ τοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ ἐνδυναμοῦντος ἡμᾶς καὶ νικῶντος τὰς πονηράς σου τέχνας”... Αὐριλλιανὸς ἐκέλευσεν ἐνεχθῆναι ξύλον μέγα, καὶ ἠνέχθη. Καὶ προσέταξεν δεθῆναι τὸν Παῦλον εἰς αὐτό. just as (your father) the devil was weaker than Christ who strengthens us and overcomes your worst devices." (Having heard this) Aurelian ordered a large wooden block (or post?) to be brought in, and this was done. And he ordered Paulus to be bound to it.
и҅ пристѫпь҆шꙙ слоугꙑ съвꙙꙁашꙙ ѥ҅моу рѫцѣ· и҅ повелѣ принести свѣштꙙ горѧштꙙ· и҅ прижагати лице паул҄е· проповѣдⸯникоу вь҆пиѭ̑штоу и҅ глагол҄ѫштоу · не бѫди досадител҄ь владꙑкамъ вь҆сеѧ вь҆сел҄енꙑѧ· и хоульникъ о҅ боꙁѣхъ· Προσελθόντες δὲ οἱ δήμιοι ἔδησαν αὐτοῦ τὰς χείρας, καὶ ἐκέλευσεν ἐνεχθῆναι λαμπάδας πυρὸς καιομένας καὶ προσφέρεσθαι εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ, τοῦ κήρυκος ἐπιβοῶντος· „Μὴ ὑβριστὴς ἔσο εἰς τοὺς δεσπότας τῆς οἰκουμένης καὶ βλάσφημος κατὰ τῶν θεῶν”. Then the executioners came up and bound his hands, and he ordered burning torches to be brought in and to be put up against his face, as the herald cried out ["Let this man no more speak violently against] the ruler of the empire, nor blaspheme against the gods."
и҅о̑улиꙗ҅ни же видꙙшти своѥ҅го брата о҅гн҄емъ о҅палꙗе҅ма· въꙁъпи глагол҄ѫшти· а҅урилиꙗ҅не мѫчителю· и҅ непрѣподобь҆не чⸯто брата моѥ҅го ꙁь҆лѣ мѫчиши· и҅ повелѣ и҅ тѫ прівꙙꙁати къ дрѣвоу· и҅ свѣштꙙ горѫштꙙ принести на лице ѥ҅ѧ· и҅ потомь҆ по вь҆семоу тѣлоу прижиꙁати· Ἡ δὲ Ἰουλιανὴ θεωροῦσα τὸν ἑαυτῆς ἀδελφὸν πυρὶ καταφλεγόμενον ἀνεβόησεν λέγουσα· „Αὐριλλιανὲ τύραννε καὶ ἀνόσιε, τί... τὸν ἀδελφόν μου οὕτως ὠμῶς... βασανίζεις;” Καὶ ἐκέλευσεν... καὶ αὐτὴν προσδεθῆναι τῷ ξύλῳ καὶ τὰς λαμπάδας τοῦ πυρὸς προσενεχθῆναι εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτῆς, εἰθ' οὕτως καθ' ὅλου τοῦ σώματος αὐτῆς. Then Juliana saw her brother burned with the fire she cried out saying "Aurelian, tyrant and impious man; what (evil has) my brother (done) that you (thus) cruelly and for no reason torture him?" And (Aurelian) ordered her also to be bound to the wooden post and the flaming torches to be applied to her face, and then in the same way to her whole body.
̕А҅урилиꙗ҅ноу глагол҄ѫштоу бесрамь҆наꙗ· жена сѫшти стꙑди сꙙ ꙗ҅коже подобаатъ женамъ· и҅о̑улиꙗ҅ни же о҅склабивъши сꙙ рече· по и҅стинѣ а҅урилиꙗне приѥ҅мь҆ѭ̑ тꙙ о̑учꙙштоу ти мꙙ ꙗ҅ко блага о҅ц꙯а· глагол҄ѫштоу ти· жена сѫшти стꙑди сꙙ· Ἔφη δὲ αὐτῇ ὁ Αὐριλλιανός· „Ὦ ἀναιδέστατον γύναιον, αἰσχύνου καθὼς πρέπει γυναιξίν”. Ἰουλιανὴ μειδιάσασα εἶπεν· ,,Ἀληθῶς, Αὐριλλιανέ, ἀποδέχομαί σε νουθετοῦντά με ἐν τῷ λέγειν σε ἐμοί· γυνὴ οὖσα αἰσχύνου. And Aurelian said to her "O reckless and worthless woman, be ashamed, as a woman should." Juliana smiling said "I accept your admonition, Aurelian, for what you say to me is true 'being a woman you should be reverent;
стꙑждѫ бо сꙙ х꙯са моѥ҅го с꙯на б꙯а живааго· сѫшта прѣдь лицемъ мои҅мъ· и҅ не могѫ о҅ставьши ѥ҅го поклонити сꙙ бѣсомъ· нъ стꙑждѫ сꙙ ѥ҅го ꙁѣло· Αἰσχύνομαι γὰρ τὸν Χριστὸν τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ζῶντος ὄντα πρὸ προσώπου μου, καὶ οὐ δύναμαι καταλεῖψαι αὐτὸν καὶ προσκυνῆσαι δαίμοσιν.” for I reverence Christ the son of the living God who is before my face, and I cannot turn away from him and bow down to devils."
̔А҅урилиꙗ҅нъ же ꙗ҅рѣше сꙙ слꙑшꙙ то вь҆се о҅ть҆ н҄еѧ· и҅ повелѣ слоугамъ огн҄ь нанести по вь҆семоу тѣлоу ѥ҅ю̑· слоугамⸯ же беспрѣстани жегѫштамъ· вь҆си граждане прѣдъстоѧ҅штиї и҅ поꙁороуѭ̑штиї ѥ҅ю̑· вь҆ꙁⸯпишꙙ глагол҄ѫште · Ὁ δὲ Αὐριλλιανὸς ἐθυμοῦτο χλευαζόμενος ὑπ' αὐτῶν καὶ ἐκέλευσεν τοῖς δημίοις τὸ πῦρ προσφέρειν καθ' ὅλου τοῦ σώματος αὐτῶν. Τῶν δὲ δημίων προσφερόντων... ἅπασα ἡ πόλις τῶν περιεστώτων ἐπὶ τῇ θεωρίᾳ τῶν ἁγίων μαρτύρων ἀνεβόησεν λέγουσα· Aurelian grew angry at being mocked by them, and he ordered the executioners to apply the fire over the whole of their bodies. When the executioners applied it (according to the command of the tyrant) the whole city (assembly?) of bystanders, at the sight of the holy martyrs, cried out saying
самодръжь҆че цѣсарю а҅урилиꙗ҅не· неправедь҆нѣ сѫдиши· неправедьнѣ мѫчиши· не хоштета пожрьти о҅тъвѣштаи҆ о҅ н҄ею̑· ̔А҅урилиꙗнъ же о̑убоꙗ҅въ сꙙ народа ѥ҅да крамолѫ вь҆ꙁдвигⸯнѫтъ· дастъ о҅ н҄ею̑ о҅тъвѣтъ повелѣвъ главѣ и҅ма о҅тъсѣшти· и҅ тѣлесѣ ѥ҅ю̑ поврѣшти пⸯсомъ и҅ ꙁвѣремъ· и҅ птицамⸯ небесъскꙑи҅мъ· „Αὐτοκράτορ Αὐριλλιανέ, ἀδίκως κρίνεις, ἀδίκως βασανίζεις· οὐ βούλονται θύειν, ἀπόφηνον κατ' αὐτῶν”. Ὁ δὲ Αὐριλλιανὸς... φοβηθείς, μὴ στάσιν... ποιήσωσιν, ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς ἀπόφασιν κελεύσας τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν ἀποτμηθῆναι καὶ τὰ σώματα αὐτῶν ῥιφῆναι τοῖς κυσὶν καὶ τοῖς θηρίοις καὶ τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ. "Emperor Aurelian, you are condemning them unjustly, you are punishing them unjustly; they do not want to sacrifice, they have declared it for themselves." Then Aurelian fearing the people and being in dread that they might start an insurrection (against him), gave sentence, ordering that their heads be cut off and that their bodies should be torn apart by dogs and wild beasts and the birds of the air.
сиꙗ҅ же о҅тъвѣтъ приѥ҅мъша вь҆ четврътъи҆ день҆ марⸯта мѣсꙙца· и҅ꙁидоста радоуѭ̑шта сѧ и҅ поѭ̑шта глаголааста· съпасе на о҅тъ оскрьбьꙗ҅ѭштиїхъ наю̑· и҅ ненавидѧштѧѧ наю̑ посрами· Οἱ δὲ λαβόντες τὴν ἀπόφασιν τῇ ἑπτακαιδεκάτῃ τοῦ Αὐγούστου μηνὸς ἐξῆλθον χαίροντες ἅμα καὶ ψάλλοντες οὕτως· ,,Ἔσωσας ἡμᾶς... ἐκ τῶν θλιβόντων ἡμᾶς καὶ τοὺς μισοῦντας ἡμᾶς κατῄσχυνας”. And they, when they received the sentence on the 17th August, went out rejoicing together and singing a psalm thus "You have saved us (Lord) from those who were oppressing us, and you have put to shame those who hate us."
и҅шедъшема же и҅ма вънъ града· Ст꙯ꙑи҆ паулъ о̑умоли сѣчь҆цѫ ꙗ҅ко да и҅ӱлиꙗ҅ниѭ̑ прѣжде ѥ҅го о̑усѣкⸯнѫтъ· Ст꙯аа же и҅о̑улиꙗ҅ни прѣкръстивъши лице своѥ· съ радостиѭ̑ протꙙже вꙑѭ̑ своѭ̑ · и҅ сѣчь҆ца о҅тъсѣче главѫ ѥ҅и҆· Ἐλθόντων δὲ αὐτῶν... ἔξω τῆς πόλεως ὁ Παῦλος ἠξίωσεν τὸν σπεκουλάτορα, ὥστε τὴν Ἰουλιανὴν πρὸ αὐτοῦ κρουσθῆναι. Ἡ δὲ Ἰουλιανὴ κατασφραγισαμένη τὸ ἑαυτῆς πρόσωπον μετὰ χαρᾶς προέτεινεν τὸν τράχηλον, καὶ ὁ σπεκουλάτωρ ἔκρουσεν αὐτὴν τῷ ξίφει. And when they had gone (to a place) outside the city, Paulus asked the bodyguard that Juliana should be put to death before him. Then Juliana, veiling her face, joyfully stretched out her neck, and the guard struck her with his sword.
Видѣвъ же свѧтꙑи҆ паулъ сестрѫ своѭ̑ съконь҆чавъшѫ сꙙ о҅ господи· въꙁдвигъ о҅чи свои҆ на небо благослови бога· и҅ прѣкръстивъ сꙙ протꙙгнѫ вꙑѭ̑ своѭ̑· и҅ о̑усѣченъ бꙑстъ· и҅ съконь҆ча мѫчениѥ҆ своѥ҆· Θεωρήσας δὲ ὁ Παῦλος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ἀδελφὴν ἐν Χριστῷ τελειωθεῖσαν ἀνατείνας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ηὐχαρίστησεν τῷ θεῷ καὶ κατασφραγισάμενος προέτεινεν τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ σπεκουλάτωρ ἔκρουσεν καὶ αὐτὸν τῷ ξίφει. When Paulus saw that his sister had finished her course in Christ, lifting up his eyes to Heaven he gave thanks to God, and veiling his face he stretched out his neck and the guard struck him also with his sword.
и҅ бѣа҅ста лежꙙшти тѣлесѣ ст꙯оую̑ вь҆нѣ града· не даѥ҅мѣ вь҆ꙁꙙти сꙙ о҅тъ крь҆стиꙗ҅нъ· бѣа҅хѫ бо вои҅ни приставиѥ҅ни на мѣстѣ томь блюсти· Καὶ ἦσαν κείμενα τὰ σώματα αὐτῶν ἔξω τῆς πόλεως καὶ μὴ συγχωρούμενα ἀρθῆναι παρὰ τῶν Χριστιανῶν· ἐφυλάττοντο γὰρ ὑπὸ στρατιωτῶν κατὰ τὴν κέλευσιν Αὐριλλιανοῦ. And their bodies were lying outside the city, and the Christians were not allowed to gather them up; for they were guarded by soldiers according to the orders of Aurelian.
прихаждаахѫ же ꙁвѣриѥ҆ и҅ пь҆си· и҅ пь҆тицѧ небесьнꙑѧ· и҅ сѣдѣа҅хѫ о҅крѫгⸯ тѣлесоу ѥ҅ю̑· ꙗ҅коже и҅ моухꙑ о҅тъ н҄ею̑ о҅тъгонити· и҅ сице творѣахѫ до седⸯми дьниї и҅ ноштиї· и҅ не ꙗ҅шꙙ ни пишꙙ ꙁвѣриѥ тиї· и҅ вь҆ꙁвѣштено бꙑстъ а҅урилиꙗ҅ноу о҅тъ приставьѥ҅нꙑихъ вои҅нъ вьсе то бꙑвъшеѥ҆· Καὶ ἤρχοντο οἱ λύκοι καὶ οἱ κύνες καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἐκαθέζοντο κύκλῳ τῶν ἁγίων μαρτύρων τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ... μυῖας ἐπάνω τῶν ἁγίων σωμάτων ἀπεδίωκον... καὶ περιεκάθισαν αὐτοῖς... ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας καὶ ἑπτὰ νύκτας. Ἀνηγγέλη δὲ τῷ Αὐριλλιανῷ ὑπὸ τῶν στρατιωτῶν ἅπαντα τὰ γεγενημένα, And the wolves and dogs and birds of the air came and sat in a circle around the holy martyrs of Christ and guarded them; and they drove away the other living creatures, that is flies, from above the bodies of the saints, and scared them away with their wings, and did not allow them to come near the holy bodies; and the wild beasts and birds of the air sat around them for seven days and seven nights. Everything which happened was reported to Aurelian by the soldiers
и҅ о̑услꙑшавъ рече · ѡ̑ ꙁⸯлочь҆сть҆ноѥ бѣшениѥ рода крь҆стіꙗньска· ꙗко ни о̑умеръшъ и҅хъ могохъ побѣдити· и҅ посълавъ о҅тъведе стрѣгѫштꙙѧ вои҅нꙑ ноштиѭ̑· свѣтоу же бꙑвъшоу· и҅ їшедъше крь҆стиꙗ҅ни въꙁꙙшꙙ тѣлесѣ ст꙯оую̑· καὶ ἀκούσας... εἶπεν· „Ὦ τῆς δυσσεβεστάτης μανίας τοῦ γένους τῶν Χριστιανῶν· οὐδὲ θανόντας ἀδυνήθην νικῆσαι αὐτούς”. Καὶ ἀποστείλας ἀπέσπασεν τοὺς στρατιώτας νυκτός... Ἡμέρας δὲ γενομένης ἐξελθόντες οἱ Χριστιανοὶ συνεκόμισαν τὰ σώματα αὐτῶν and hearing it, Aurelian said "O accursed madness of the race of Christians; I have not been able to overcome them even when they are dead." And he sent and ordered the soldiers away by night (for he did not wish to order them away by day because he did not want to be laughed at by the Christians).
и҅ погребошꙙ мирьнѣ съ радостиѭ̑· цѣсарь҆ствоуѭ̑штоу г꙯оу нашемоу їс꙯ хс꙯оу· сь н҄имь҆же о҅тⸯцоу слава· коупⸯно съ ст꙯ꙑи҅мь҆ д꙯хомⸯ нꙑнꙗ̑ и҅ присно и҅ вь вѣкꙑ вѣкомь҆ амін καὶ ἔθαψαν πολυτελῶς ἐν εἰρήνῃ βασιλεύοντος τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, μεθ' οὗ τῷ πατρὶ ἅμα τῷ ἁγίῳ πνεύματι δόξα... νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων. Ἀμήν. When daylight came the Christians went out and collected their bodies and gave them very costly funeral rites in peace, under the rule of Our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom with the Father and the Holy Spirit be glory (honour and power) now and always and to the ages of ages. Amen.
